On April 1st, Tartarus Records made the following statement:
Hello, I’ve released a mystery tape today.
There are only 100 made.
You cannot listen to any of it online, but a download card is included.
Available now until April 24th. After that, they will disappear from the shop.
This is not a joke.
Well, for me it is. But this is an actual tape for you to listen to.
Or not.
You decide.
In a couple of hours, the 100 red mylar bags were completely gone, which is very strange when you take in account that nobody but the label and the band in question knew what was on the cassettes.

I wanted to do something else. With MENHIRs’ ‘Uberlith II’ (packaged in a brick) and ‘Hiding in Light’ (embedded in silicon rubber) the listener already knew what was on the tape. Once purchased they would get an additional download, so that means there is the safety of listening to your brick of plaster/rubber without destroying the packaging. This time I wanted to turn things around: You would know absolutely nothing about the release, and the only way to find out what it is, is to actually open the package. I had a lot of fun making these and was completely surprised they sold out so quickly. I guess a lot of people know what I’m doing and trust me enough to participate in this experiment.
Since the mystery tape was released on April fool’s, what better date is there to reveal its identity on Monday the 16th?
