I don’t really know what to say about A HUNDRED BLACK KITES upcoming release Arrow of Time other than I am feeling it. I’m at a loss for words because this music fits into no box in my current descriptive repertoire – and that’s why I am so moved by my experience listening to this album. It’s part poetry, part blues, part noise, part doom, but at the same time none of these things. Today we’re streaming the track “Unto Others” from their Arrow of Time tape that comes out via Tartarus Records on March 31st (pre-order here).
Perched upon the Raven’s Tor, the kite as sentinel awaits.
A gaze redolent of a stare, the depths are heights to some.
Welkin weaving currents which embody many torrents to come.
Echoes of herds long gone rebound across the crag’s straits.Shriller tones, warbling calls, a whisper in the sky
Of death, spells, recurrence, of names and of sense.
Pitch black strewn across the sky, fleeting swift yet dense,
And still upon Raven’s Tor, a kite waits, posed to fly.– Johan van Hattum
