You know when post-punk is done so right that every note falls into perfect place? So that it starts to bleed into your veins, and pump through you with a beat indistinguishable from your own heart? That’s what I’m getting from the gorgeous new ROPES OF NIGHT record I’m listening to. It’s coming at the perfect time for me. It’s a catalog of the suffering we can endure while keeping our heads high. Every day as I wake up to strive for a better future for my children and your children—a future free of the terror and fear and gaslighting of our current system—I remind myself of the matriarchs that came before me, crippled because of their sex but infinitely strong and wise and powerful. Nurturing their children and grandchildren in the hopes that one day their descendants would break free and heal their lineage of the rape and murder and oppression, both committed and experienced. I can’t help but stand in defiance of a system that sanctions mass graves for children, that has no respect for culture, that pretends to educate but hates the human mind. All of this sadness and anger and joy is found on their new record Impossible Space that comes out September 3rd via Golden Antenna Records (CD/VINYL pre-order) and Tartarus Records (Tape pre-order).
