Our culture’s concepts of feminine and masculine are so limiting and basic. They are far more powerful and expansive energies than one human can express, so we make a set of rules to confine them and we say we must embody one or the other. But listening to LVXURI, I get a sense that the artist understands the true nature of these energies well. The artist behind LVXURI, Aurora Dawn, is unveiled as the new artistic identity of Sara Timms (Black Mare, Ides Of Gemini, Black Math Horseman), with this project focused on her “Solar Temple,” so the music is lighter, dreamier, and more seductive, but no less powerful. Her voice is one of the most compelling in the underground, and it shines against the backdrop of electronic art pop melodies on “Headlights.” She presents as idealized feminine, yet she perfectly captures an ominous hunger and obscured strength beneath her gestures and poses. The result is a persona who’s so beautifully creepy that I can’t take my eyes off her. Timms says that Aurora came to her during “an extended psycho-spiritual break with reality” and that’s exactly what I feel while watching this video – like I’ve stepped into a dream world and I’m meeting someone from another dimension.
