From the Queen of Kylesa comes the gorgeous, deliciously sinister post-punk project THE DISCUSSION! Their sound is dreamy in a gothic nightmare kind of way, sultry guitars and seductive beats swirl around me, pulling me into a cold reverie. Their debut record All the Pretty Flowers explores genres that range the dark and dancey spectrum, from coldwave to synth pop to gothic rock, and the result is a post-punk sound that feels like it could have graced turntables in the 80’s and in 2025 — just classic enough to pull at my heartstrings but definitely honoring the present and future of post-punk. I love everything I’ve heard from this record, but I keep hitting replay on “In The Mirror” which probably means it’s my favorite. The classic sounding post-punk bass, shimmering guitar riffs, steady drumbeat, and intense vocals are everything I love about post-punk.
“Blue Light” is magical, leaning more into gothic EBM and darkwave, with deeper vocals and darker synths. This one’s for the Batcave club kids.
“Fade Away” has a more eerie vibe, and I feel like I’m walking through a house haunted by memories or dancing in a graveyard.
Their debut full-length, All the Pretty Flowers releases May 23rd via Artoffact Records — pre-order it here.
