There’s infinitely more in the universe that the human mind will ever understand. At any given moment in history, our experts claim to know everything while presenting us with a fraction of the picture. Those that have been able to expand their minds to a point of understanding are sitting silently watching the rest of us fight over scraps and scrape and bow before total ignorance.
The twists and turns in Kehlvin‘s metallic hardcore-tinged post-rock take my mind in and out of the maze of thought until I realize that only by not thinking am I going to understand anything. It’s one of the aspects of music that I most value—its ability to pause thought and let awareness be in the body—and it’s what makes their new record Holistic Dreams so blissful to listen to. It’s ruthless and violent and then an agitated peace sets in, and there’s nothing this record demands of the listener other than to surrender to existing in your body at this moment. The record comes out via Division Records on September 24th — pre-order it here. Today we’re excited to bring the full album to you, so hit play on Holistic Dreams below.
Are matter, life, and self-conscience all parts of the same process? Is there a simple matter of degree between them? How can movement be a consequence of inert matter? This, linked with some narrative passages inspired by Douglas Adams’ books Dirk Gently: Holistic Detective, has been our main source of inspiration regarding the concept behind this new album.
