The latest LP from Dawn Ray’d, The Unlawful Assembly (out now on Prosthetic Records Halo of Flies Records Feast of Tentacles), kicks fucking ass and I love the way that it blends the sounds of the new world with the sounds of the old world. It is also freaking awesome seeing a band take a political stand against all of the fucked up shit we are facing as humans. This band knows that music can be used as a weapon of mass change instead of a weapon of mass mental oppression. We are so stoked that they just put out their new video for the song “Emptiness Beneath The Great Emptiness.” 2018 is going to be a busy year for Dawn Ray’d – they have a tour in April plus they are performing at this year’s Roadburn.
With our first video, we wanted to set the tone right, for us, the live show is very important, so all the footage of us was filmed live in the UK and the US. There are also a few different sides to Dawn Ray’d, so it was important they were all represented, there’s nothing more black metal than a church steeple ablaze, and burning churches is the point where anarchism and black metal align perfectly. Black metal has always been about resistance and freedom, freedom from oppression, from religion and defence against any usurper. All this destruction must be avenged…
