Tomorrow, gothic romantics CREUX LIES are releasing a stunning remix album for their 2021 record on Freakwave Records, Goodbye Divine. I swear as soon as I hit play on this record, the lights went down and the bats came out and I just wanted to dance! As a part of this special record, they worked with TRAITRS on one of the tracks, “Becoming (TRAITRS remix),” and it’s so addictive I can’t stop hitting play on it. We finally met TRAITRS in-person while sharing the stage at the most recent Absolution Fest in Florida a few months ago. There was good energy and laughs volleyed in the greenroom for hours with these guys. I was kinda hoping these Toronto gems would close the night by jumping in the van to join us for a world tour. Alas, they had other shit to do… like touring the fuck out of Europe. Check their dates. But truly, I’ve been a fan of this group since I started DJing and promoting darkwave/post-punk type shows in my home city of Sacramento, CA several years ago (when their track, “Gallow’s Hill,” was a favorite dance floor banger of mine).
In 2020, Creux Lies penned a deal with the German label Freakwave and we would soon find out that TRAITRS was doing the same. It was a treat and to be put touch with a band I had enjoyed so much. Since, we have forged a special friendship with them of comradery and trust. This band has done what many bands cannot… get better with each release; and they brought this innovation and style to their version of our song, “Becoming.” When I heard this (I would venture classified as a techno/darkwave styled remix) I literally said, “yesss!” as the song blasted in from my car stereo while driving on my twilight lit morning commute. This song will be a long-lived goffesq dance banger. This one is still on repeat for me, DJs take notice.
