Every day we live under the threat of having our skin melt off and our brains liquefy in our skulls and our children and our children’s children born into mutated bodies, and I think the soundtrack to the absurdity that a small group of insecure, unhappy, unsatisfied, and unloved humans subject us to has to be this new record from JAAW. This post-industrial “greyscale psychedelic” group features Andy Cairns (Therapy?), Jason Stoll (Mugstar, KLÄMP, Sex Swing), Wayne Adams (Death Pedals, Big Lad, Petbrick), and Adam Betts (Three Trapped Tigers, Goldie, Squarepusher). As you would expect from a group of musicians whose offerings easily push past whatever genre boundaries the unsuspecting listener tries to box them into, their new single “Rot” is a sonic steamroller that captures my brainwaves and plays with them like some kind of mind control experiment. It’s off their record SUPERCLUSTER that’s out May 26th via Svart Records — pre-order it here and stream it here. Right now, let the sounds of “Rot” pull you out of the fear cycle and into the joy void!
JAAW glories in big riffs and massive hooks, while also pushing the boundaries of what that even means thanks to its uncompromising strangeness.
