Every time I see another high-rise development go up in Vancouver, advertising “perfect living amenities” while wading waist-deep in our opioid crisis and rampant homelessness, the mythical fall of Babylon looms large in my mind’s eye. It makes me think of friends who’ve come from places where Canada is a promised land and when they arrive they’re horrified and disgusted that a place with so much wealth would let people live in filth and horror. Morrison Graves takes on the frustrations of watching human lives trampled underfoot while the lure of luxury steadily hypnotizes us off the cliff of civilization. They create an atmosphere of opulent psych rock and mesmerizing melodies that feel like they’re trying to snap us out of our destructive daze and onto another, more compassionate timeline. How many of us have hoped to die before we reap the punishments for the vile acts we’ve sewn into the soil for centuries? Morrison Graves shares our worst stories in a sonically captivating way on their debut album Division Rising which comes out on March 31st — you can pre-order it here. Today we’re lucky to be sharing Division Rising in full, so hit play and fall into the heavy melodies of Morrison Graves…
