We’re at the end of a fucked up decade and a fucked up year that’s laid bare the fact that the history of “progress” we’ve been fed by our capitalist overlords is nothing more than fiction meant to uphold systems of oppression and exploitation. If you don’t know, now you know. But it’s not a victory to have seen this, it’s a bitter pill to swallow when you see the bloody evidence pushed aside yet again by the people who technically have the power to do something about it. It’s about time to shift the power out of their hands. This is my brain on revolution when I watch Opium Warlords new video for their eerie spoken word composition “Sarah Was Nineteen Years Old.” This song is a reckoning. The video is disorienting. It’s off their new record Nembutal that comes out December 4th via Svart Records – pre-order it here. When people tire of pretending to care about anything other than their own fears, “Sarah Was Nineteen Years Old” will be an archive of what it felt like to want to murder this system.
The record is a joyful vision of death and apocalypse. The end of love, the end of pain and the end of mankind.
