After five years in the shadows, RVA post-punk trio SHADOW AGE is back with a vengeance. They just finished a 3-week tour and are getting ready to release a remix EP for their recent single “Ours,” a synth-driven new wave dream of a song. The Ours remix EP is out December 1st on cassette via Play Alone Records — get it here. Today we’re stoked to be sharing “Ours (Glyphics – Desire Remix)” off the EP — it’s an addictive, emotive sonic trip that I keep hitting replay on. I don’t know whether I want to hold myself and sway in pure melancholy, or jump up and dance in pure liberation, but this song has me wanting to do both! The Ours remix EP also features remixes from Xör, Petrified Entity, and Maude, and each one takes the original to new heights. Make sure you check it out here and listen to “Ours (Glyphics – Desire Mix)” below:
One of my favorite things about this song is that I can give a multitude of answers about what its about. The moon. Time. Being alone. Finding Solace. Acceptance. I wanted to write something that was honest and real, but not too specific. The lyrics were written over the course of a week in a methed-out hotel in Salt Lake City. The music was written over the course of two sessions with guitarist Tony Gloom in Richmond in 2019. It’s really exciting to finally share this song that we’ve been sitting on for four years at this point.

Glyphics is the solo project of Evan Sharfe (formerly of Skeleton Hands). A couple of years ago while visiting Evan in Cincinnati, he made an off-handed comment about completing a remix in an hour for a friend of his. I joked that he would have the same amount of time to complete a Shadow Age remix and the whole idea of Evan doing a remix spawned from there. According to him, his remix is essentially what Shadow Age would sound like if he produced us. I kind of view this mix as an extended version of the song.
