Who looks back at you when you look in the mirror? Does your reflection haunt you? When you think about the way you treat those around you, are you happy? When you think of the ancient cultures that came before you, do you find peace in their existence? When you immerse yourself in new music, do you travel to unknown parts of yourself? These are the questions that come to my mind as I listen to HARWA’s BEGTSE tape that is out now via Fallow Field and FÖDWEG. Within their dystopian soundscapes, I find peace of mind to know that I’m free to be me. As I listen to the dirge of their song “The Roots Infesting Your Castles Walls,” I realize I will never allow my past to imprison my present. The music you will encounter on BEGTSE will slowly move over your reality like sonic lava burning away your eternal fear of self! I love how this project manifests walls of sound that shape shifts with each encounter. There is something both ancient and futuristic about the sounds of HARWA. Excuse me as I find solace in their song “Pale Rider, Dying Steed,” and feel empowered to say FUCK everything normal. I want the creators of BEGTSE to know that they have constructed an audio world of both JOY and TORMENT for us all to enjoy.
