When vinyl was the audio mode of the day, turntables were in every home. I’m sure most of our grandparents had one of those massive cabinets in their living room, turntable, storage and speakers all in one carved, mahogany box. But what about when kids got into the rock n’ roll music, and wanted to listen to it without driving their parents insane? Record player manufacturers jumped on the opportunity to sell portable players with weird and wacky designs intended to attract a younger audience. The results are hilarious and sometimes amazingly cool. Can we seriously bring back the portable car record turntable? It would be almost impossible to change the music without a passenger, but so satisfying to listen to. Except for potholes and speedbumps. And the retro-futuristic bubble players are rad, got to find me one of those. Nowadays we’re so boring with our turntable design because we realized that function was more important than fashion. The one picture I’m confused about is the vinyl slipped into the butt crack – is that a turntable design?
