In this fucked up world, it’s more important than ever to look for community around the things you love. Case in point is Minneapolis’ MURF, who formed around the members’ mutual love of “Robocop,” horror films, WWE wrestling, and hardcore music. Even if I hadn’t heard their music already, that set of commonalities alone would make me respect their creative output. But before I knew that, I hit play on “5 Iron,” their new single that we have the pleasure of sharing with you today, and I was immediately hooked on their weird, dissonant, hyper crossover sound. “5 Iron” bludgeons my ears with blunt force percussion, angular riffs, and rage-fuelled vocals! This band has lived through it all and come out the other side, and I can feel it in this song. Their upcoming full-length Already Dead comes out on June 7th via Learning Curve Records — pre-order it here. Watch their video for “5 Iron” below and catch them live next Friday in MPLS!
Already Dead seeks to break the thick walls of PTSD, re-examining the past with more matured eyes yet still standing in awe at the intensity/insanity of life. It addresses surviving a pandemic, living in the city that sparked a worldwide discussion on police brutality, the bitter-sweet feelings of nostalgia with those who are no longer here, and commenting on hyper-commercialism. The LP looks at the warping landscape of social media and the relationship with art, imagining the post-apocalyptic landscape with the current landscape of billionaire characters.
