I’m trying to write this feature but it’s hard to function when my skull is being crushed by the devastating sludge of 尼浊累CONCH! I’m listening to their 2022 Shanghai Demo and my eyes and ears are crying tears of blood as their sounds drench my synapses in thick, tarry, downtuned riffs and as my bones crack under the pressure of their percussion. It’s been a while since I heard a band who reaches this far into the depths of sludge, but 尼浊累CONCH have done it and they’re dragging me down into it with them! I’ll go gladly, because there’s something cathartic about letting myself go to crashing, earth-shaking sounds like these. This demo runs less than 20 minutes, but when you’re in the thick of these untitled tracks you feel like you’re never going to leave. I can’t wait to see what delicious hell awaits us on their full length…
