It’s late, so I’m going for something straightforward and simple here. It’s photos of Brigitte Bardot stripping out her of nun’s habit for Italy’s Playmen Magazine’s October 1970 issue. She took it off to promote her role in the French feature, “Les Novices”, which was released that year. By all accounts, it’s a shitty movie, but I love the juxtaposition of the denial and dehumanization of women’s sexuality that the nun’s habit represents with the natural power and sensuality of Brigitte’s nudity. And in 2020 it’s fucking refreshing to see a barely-modified feminine form by today’s standards – not an ounce of silicone or filler in sight, and just the hint of dodge-and-burn and soft filtering that was 70s photoshopping – even if she’s still part of the beauty standards problem.
