First you need to define “apocalypse” – according to the Greeks it’s an unveiling or unfolding of things not previously known and which could not be known apart from the unveiling. By this definition, I think it’s safe to say that the apocalypse is what our overlords would have us think it is – disease, pestilence, natural disaster, religion. It’s not the circle pit of humanity running ever closer to one another until all but a few of us are trampled into the ground. It’s not head down, nose to the grindstone, don’t make eye contact with the master in case he makes an example of us, until we die alone. Or is it? Listening to the new record by New York melodic metallic hardcore band Age Of Apocalypse is only making me more resolute that what we need to fear is not a supernatural force, it’s the need for fear in ourselves. Their record The Way comes out via Fuzz Records on July 31st – pre-order it here – and today we’re streaming it in full. In an age where the myths and mysteries we’ve been sold as truths are being exposed as nothing more than power moves, I feel like Age of Apocalypse is telling me I’m not deluded.
