WTF, the other night I found the most underrated 90s Shoegaze band from NYC called BOWERY ELECTRIC. Their first two albums released on Kranky Records are freaking perfect! If anyone from the band ever reads this I want them to know that they created truly timeless music!
BOWERY ELECTRIC S/T
BOWERY ELECTRIC’s self-titled record is way more straightforward than their next record but I fucking love it! As I listen to their song “Over and Over” I’m taken to a mind state where my sorrowful thoughts are not given any space to take over my eternal joy. This band was masters at manifesting sonic textures that were both ethereal and powerful at the same time! I can’t help but lose myself in the wall of sound that encounter in all of their songs! Tunes like “Slow Thrills” are a looking glass into a universe where everything slow represents positive vibrations. BOWERY ELECTRIC did not create the kind of Shoegaze that would make them popular to the masses but they created the kind of music that would stand the test of time. While always speaking to the human condition we all face on the daily!
BOWERY ELECTRIC: BEAT
This BOWERY ELECTRIC LP Beat is just the beat and a straight fucklng jam. The title track sets the tone for the rest of the album and draws me into the world of this band. I’m amazed at how freaking spot-on they were while creating this album. I think about my life when Beat came out and just imagine how better my life would have been if I knew about this band. I’m crying tears of joy as I blast “Empty Words” and write these words of bliss. I’m a fan of music for sure but experiencing the sounds of BOWERY ELECTRIC makes me a fan of living. I know for a fact that our vast record collection will not be complete until we get both of these albums. I want to say thank you to Kranky for always releasing music that matters!
