The further our societies have run from our origin stories as a species — our actual, ancient stories, not the biblical ones — the less equipped we’ve become to raise and nurture the next generation. All of us have monsters inside, created in our infancy and childhood by parents who couldn’t or wouldn’t see us for who we were and couldn’t or wouldn’t give us what we needed. When we deny those monsters exist, they grow and fester and eat whatever is good in us. Kludde‘s new video for “Horla I: Over Lust” tells the story of one monster who was born to a witch in Belgium, destined to be a monster for his entire sad and violent life. Their cruel and unrelenting blackened sludge sets the tone for disturbingly lovely illustrations by Wesley Dewanckel. Their discordant melodies and pulverizing percussion feel like they’re calling forth the purest form of disgust and depression from the womb of humanity’s most shameful secrets. Set to be released on March 31st by Consouling Sounds, ‘De Horla’ is a concept album that tells the story of a disfigured creature who was given to a travelling circus at birth, where he was exploited and ridiculed. The first video takes you on a visual journey, portraying the emotional turmoil of a witch who led a sinful life and the unwanted birth of the Horla, and features stunning illustrations by the talented Wesley Dewanckel.
