I’m overwhelmingly excited to premiere this beautiful music video from solo project For Joris, the moniker of one Robert Pruett. It’s hard to believe this is the work of one artist– “Holly In The Reigns” has a very big sound, reminiscent of ACTORS. It’s pretty damn rare to see post-punk with this kind of romance and passion in both sight and sound. The music video is seriously one of the best I’ve seen– fantastical nature scenery, dark occult imagery, an overall feeling of pacific northwest nostalgia– I’m hooked!
Quote from For Joris: “For Holly, I had a character in mind who would be a powerful victim – a soul who seeks and commands her own misfortune. I think Dyani Dominguez, our actor, terrified us all with how mighty she seemed despite the fragile and fugitive role she had to play. We were all really stirred by her energy, and I think it influenced Nero Nava’s direction a great deal. He and Giancarlo Diaz, our director of photography, had this trance-like focus on the emotional content of each movement. I have a pretty open, spontaneous way of writing lyrics, and the suggestive tensions between Dyani, the landscape, and the sounds in this video have enriched my understanding of the music itself.”
