I discovered my love for SLUDGE when I was going to see BLACK FLAG during their My War era. I knew that they were way more into Black Sabbath than they were into Hardcore, and you could hear it in their new direction. They had a huge impact on the future of music without even knowing it. In the PNW, Punks were inspired to create what the world would come to know as Grunge. Down south, the Punks injected the sonic filth of My War into their veins and bled SLUDGE! I can’t front, during the 90s all hell broke loose and this genre took off in a major way. Today I want to share with y’all twenty bands (some more known than others) that worshipped at the D-Tuned Altar and spread this disease we’ve all came to know and love — suffocating, deranged, unhinged SLUDGE!
