Humans are weird about death, but some of our rituals not only demystify death, but they enshrine it as another beautiful form of life. The artist behind Soul Perchers creates taxidermy sculpture in the most elegant and whimsical way. They use ethically sourced cute rodents like raccoons, possums, and foxes, as well as turkeys, which are kind of cute in a weird way. Each of the creatures they resurrect becomes a character in a Victorian novel, beautifully dressed and adorned with crowns and headdresses that speak to them as an individual. Soul Perchers’ art brings to mind the post-mortem photography that immortalized so many pets and children in the 1800s.
