Chronicle tells a story of fear, desperation and defeat through the pages of a victim’s diary chronicling a doomed war as aliens conquered our planet and enslaved our bodies to their will by caging our emotions and soul deep beneath our own flesh, forcing us to helplessly witness the harvest of our planet’s resources. ANSIA describes the cycling turmoil lived by our souls as it takes place.
I start with this quote from the band, because I think many of us feel like this fictional scenario created by avant-garde jazzgrind project R-13 is happening in reality. Replace “aliens” with “mega-corporations” and you’ve got an accurate depiction of mass media tightening their vice grip on our worldview with endless voices and distraction; social media selling our insecurities to the highest bidders; energy industries ruthlessly deploying public police forces onto indigenous lands in order to extract resources in the midst of a climate crisis; pharmaceutical and health insurance industries ensuring that our well-being doesn’t outpace their profits; actual androids infiltrating our elections; and our elected governments bending over and spreading their cheeks to welcome it all in with their eyes rolling in elite ecstasy. And if you want to know what all this looks and sounds like, you just need to hit play on our premiere of R-13’s video for “N” and let the blitz of sound and confusion wash over you. Their new album ANSIA comes out via Trepanation Recordings on April 24 – pre-order it here. This is not easy to listen to, but neither is our world an easy place to reflect on.
