Is anyone else out there feeling like the mountain of shit that the elite have built for us to live on is about to fall? Anyone else sick of the false reality we’ve been plugged into? Are you ready to cut the cord? Well, today we’ve got an inspiring visual for you from Toronto’s ANCRESS that just might give you the strength you need to do it. These titans of terror metal have put together a video that shows their frustration with the societal cage we have locked ourselves into. It’s for their track “Force Fed,” and keep in mind while watching this that everything you are seeing – the waterboarding, the force-feeding of pills and vomiting them up, and the physical violence – is all actually happening to vocalist Chris Gramlich; it’s true performance art. Ancress’ album Victoria/Jeiunium will be revealed to the world on Nov. 19th via HYPAETHRAL RECORDS, and you can pre-order the LP here. The entire album is inspired by the amazing paintings of Zdzisław Beksiński, whose work is some of our favorite and has been featured on these pages many times. The gorgeous album art is by Alex CF (Fall of Efrafa, Lightbearer). Right now, read what Ancress has to say about this visual below, and get inspired to change your reality…
Combining chaotic, black-and-white performance footage with grainy colour scenes of lead vocalist Chris Gramlich being waterboarded, trampled, forced to swallow pills and, finally, regurgitate them, “Force-Fed” is one-minute-and-30 seconds of relentless musical and visual abuse that stays true to the spirit of the Beksiński painting that inspired it. Today, more than at any other point in human history, we are bombarded continually by countless lies, disinformation and propaganda, opinions instead of facts, love and caring devoid of emotional depth, near-limitless varieties of hate and substandard art devoid of passion and meaning — being literally and figuratively force-fed shit. This permeates almost every facet of our existence, from the relationships we have and the jobs we are chained to in order to survive, right down to what we consume for sustenance. The only way to fight back is to refuse — to rebel — to search for, and speak, the truth, no matter the consequences, to educate yourself, to reject what we’ve been fed, to create the art you want to experience, to forgo the trodden path and choose the one less travelled. There is no shame in biting the hand that feeds, if that hand is force-feeding you shit.
