I’ve been away but now I’m back at it headbanging on the internet to the relentless aural bloodshed of UNDEAD‘s riffs! Listening to the pure terror that’s spewing from their track “Masters of Mankind” is really making me long for the feeling of being punched in the chest by sound as I’m floating in a sea of swirling hair and sweat and booze! What makes this one extra sweet for me is its theme of breaking free from a system that tries to force us to our knees from birth. Walking away from the crumbling, fumbling worldview that asks us to oppress ourselves above all others, to shut down dissident thought, to build walls and prisons, to bow down to pigs, and to worship billionaires. It’s a system that wants us to ask for blessings from murderous rapists while we rape and murder blessed mothers. UNDEAD reminds me that I’d rather walk alone than follow the herd off a cliff of desperation, depression, and destruction. Now, after a year or so of festering in some fetid basement cauldron, UNDEAD is re-releasing their 2019 ripper the Existential Horror LP via Redefining Darkness Records on vinyl, CD, and cassette—you can order it here and here. MASTERS OF MANKIND is an ode to individual sovereignty. No one is more qualified than you are to decide what your life will be. The free development of one’s individual potential is one of the basic “rights” to which all humans are born, but as long as one rules over another and human nature is caged in a narrow space, whipped daily into submission and trapped in an invisible prison of consumerism and productivity, we’ll never be able to develop our full potential and attain real freedom. This is the second song we wrote for our album EXISTENTIAL HORROR, and is, as always, a straight forward fist to the face of old school riffs and attitude; a hymn dedicated to those of wild spirit and a rebellious heart.
