Every day I go out into the world and interact with other human beings, I strive to be kind, compassionate, and positive. I truly want to bring joy into other people’s lives, especially since I look like a freak to a lot of people. Maybe even a bit evil to the more “conservative” ones. Don’t get it twisted—when I’m out in the world, I very clearly see the hypocrisy, the inequity, the ravaged victims of capitalism, the colonial downpressors, the stolen land, the over-consumption, the destruction of our very home and species. It’s not that I don’t react to those things, it’s that I deeply believe that if a person has a kind interaction with a bald, tattooed, booty-short-wearing weirdo, they might turn around and be kinder and more understanding of the next weirdo they come across. They might be kinder to themselves and less judgemental of their own weirdness. I think the reason why I’m able to spread good vibes is that every day I sit down to channel my shadow side when I listen to bands like Tharsis They. Their post-metallic hardcore enters my system and lets my frustrations run freely through me and out of me. The hammering percussion makes me beat my breast until my heart is free from the rot of anger and injustice, even if just for a few minutes. Tharsis They’s new record Hell First comes out in September 2021 via Dropping Bombs Records — pre-orders are live here. Today we’re excited to unleash the video for “Bloodwork” on all of you, so hit play and let it tear through your eardrums and exhaust your inner demons…
