Swarm of Nails… Ars Moriendee Illustration

When we covered the new Pale Chalice release, we hadn’t yet heard of the artist whose work graced the cover of Negate the Infinite and Miraculous, Ars Moriendee from Brazil. All we knew was that whomever had drawn the vast and stunning visual tome was someone we needed to find more about. And so when he contacted us a few days after the post went up, I was thrilled to be able to delve into the mystical world of his illustration. His work breathes and bleeds occult and magick, a churning, twisting world of tactile mysteries. Although there are a myriad of details to discover and examine, far from being busy, each element has its place in the stories he writes with his images. These are epics – at once full of light and dark, teaching the viewer about the complexities of the plane we inhabit. Ars Moriendee is one of those artists that I have come across rarely in the four years I’ve been covering art for CVLT Nation. His talent and vision are undeniable, and his work will no doubt become increasingly influential as his notoriety grows. He only has one print available at the moment, but it is amazing, so pick it up in his store. Check out some of his stunning recent works, and keep him in mind for your next album cover…

Meghan MacRae grew up in Vancouver, Canada, but spent many years living in the remote woods. Living in the shadow of grizzly bears, cougars and the other predators of the wilderness taught her about the dark side of nature, and taught her to accept her place in nature's order as their prey. She is co-founder of CVLT Nation.
