STEFAN KOIDL is an Austrian artist who paints nightmares. Using digital techniques and sculpture, Koidl captures the eerie, surreal quality of nightmares in his work – that sense of slow-motion fear and choking suspense that we’ve all suffered through in our minds. In his paintings, you’ll find the weird and the horrible coexisting peacefully. These are so accurate I can imagine what the dream would be like; for example, in the picture of the girl surrounded by sheet-covered figures, I can picture what my dream-self would do – I’d bump awkwardly past them, aware they were closing in on me, knowing I was moments away from suffocation and yet moving at an excruciatingly slow pace like my feet were buried in quicksand. Any of these images look familiar to you? Check out our gallery below, and for more follow Koidl’s facebook here.
