See these Gory 19th Century illustrations of Murder and Suicide

Published in 1898 as a textbook on forensic medicine, the Atlas of legal medicine covers cases of murder and suicide in grim detail. The painfully and beautifully executed illustrations by Mr. A. Schmitson show different modes of murder and suicide that rival crime TV in their gore. I can just imagine Mr. Schmitson having to sit for hours gazing at corpses and capturing their tiniest, most putrid features. Corpses of unwanted children, abused wives and depressed husbands. It makes for gorgeous, gory art that I’m happy to be sharing with you right here:
