Screams from the Gutter Vol. VI: The Powerviolence End-times

This volume of Screams from tha Guttah will be solely focused on Powerviolence bands and or similar. Why? Cause powerviolence rules of course, you knuckleheads!

1. INVERTEBRATE – Regression/Devolution EP

Hailing from the inner gutters of the Oakland/East Bay Area, INVERTEBRATE are a three-piece sludgy powerviolence band who have surfaced after a year from their debut full-length album with this scorching eight-song EP. As you may have guessed, in the realm of powerviolence, eight songs can mean immeasurable and instantaneous pain, eight minutes that can pass though you in a millisecond like a machine gun blast of bullets to the face. You will be dead before you ever realize what the fuck happened to you when you stand in the wake if this band’s blasting and rampaging music. INVERTEBRATE takes cues from Iron Lung, Siege, Nasum, Charles Bronson and Man is the Bastard and crumble it all up in a smoldering wave of aggression, slowing shit down to a slithering coma from time to time and collapsing into some of the most slimy and deranged sludge interludes ever. In the end, what you get is a mauling blast of punk-metal aggression with some pretty clear doom influences, something that’s as heavy, rabid and fucked as a hypothetical bastard child of Infest and Eyehategod, and definitely not something to be taken lightly by any means

2. CONSTANT FEAR – Dronekill

More powerviolence/raw punk aggression, this time coming from Long Beach’s CONSTANT FEAR, who with their new Dronekill LP bring you a mere 20 minutes divided into fourteen tracks of absolute sonic molestation. The most apparent trait of CONSTANT FEAR is their blown out, chaotic, saturated and maxed out guitar sound that along with the disembodied vocals and caveman rhythm section, makes the band sound like they are imploding and about to fucking burst. CONSTANT FEAR seem to play/record with their amps turned up all the way to frying volumes as if they are trying to melt their speakers and make the listeners’ eardrums pop like champagne corks. Seriously, their sound is so piercing, scraping and abrasive that even if the album is short, sitting through its almost unbearable twenty minutes seems like an impossible feat to accomplish. This is punk rock made with absolute sadistic intents, punk rock that is meant to lacerate flesh and peel skin off. An absolute sonic sandblasting to the face. Out now on Video Disease Records.

3. DEATHGRAVE/DEADPRESSURE – Split

Introductions Needed? Nope. You should already know who Oakland/San Jose’s DEATHGRAVE is (current and former members of Cyanic, Brainoil, Laudanum, Graves At Sea, Amber Asylum etc.), a powerviolence/grind band who features renowned sound engineer/Earhammer Studios owner Greg Wilkinson on guitar (the dude behind recordings from Noothgrush, Pallbearer, Samothrace and many more). Likewise, you should also get familiar with San Jose CA’s #1 powerviolence war machine DEADPRESSURE. What these two bands bring us is an absolutely insolent, vile, spiteful and cynical sonic bludgeoning of pure concentrated aggression. Both bands find their roots in the grind/powerviolence/hardcore of bands like Spazz, Siege, Infest, Iron Lung, Plutocracy, Man Is The Bastard, Nasum, Excruciating Terror, Dropdead, etc. with DEATHGRAVE providing a more downtuned, sludgy and groovy take on the genre, and DEADPRESSURE delivering an absolutely mauling disintegration of the senses with their supersonic speed and precision and their absolutely uncontrollable and chaotic anger and aggression. Both bands are among the best bay area powerviolence bands and anyone into this specific genre and similar sounds such as grind, crust etc. should not miss out on this flawless pairing of talent.  PLUS, don’t overlook the artwork either, the people you see pictured are the band members of the two bands, best shit you’ll see all year!

4. MOCOSO – Demo

I don’t even know what the fuck to call this. Raw punk/punk-violence with sociopathic black metal vocals? Honestly, this shit must be the most grimy, lurid and vile metallic punk I’ve ever heard. MOCOSO hail from Toronto, and play some of the most primitive, disgusting and wretched metallic hardcore punk your sorry ears will ever hear. The black metal-ish vocals just add an extra layer of disgust to something that is already repellent and foul beyond belief, so just hit play on the player below and witness how this sonic malformation will mercilessly harass and and abuse your synapses. The weird thing is that this is a single eight-minute track, something that adds even more deformity and weirdness to something that’s already far beyond fucked. Suffer through it if you will.
