Hear the rallying Cry of the Underground: SHUT IT DOWN with this Massive Comp

SHUT IT DOWN has been the rallying cry over the past few months. It means that we’ve seen the system’s racist ass for the last time and we’re ready to shut it all the fuck down once and for all. We’ve been working at this for the past decade with CVLT Nation, because Sean and I have never fit neatly into the system, so we just made our own shit instead. It’s been inspiring to see the anti-racist movement growing in the underground, and it feels like we’re at a tipping point where we can start seeing some real progress happen. You do your part by supporting Black-owned underground media like CVLT Nation, and by supporting BIPOC musicians and artists in the underground, and by supporting BIPOC organizations through the purchase of comps like the one I’m about to put you on to!

Racetraitor’s Mani Mostofi has organized a comp featuring 46 heavy, heavy hitters in underground metal, punk, hardcore, and noise in the form of Shut it Down: Benefit for the Movement for Black Lives, with all proceeds going to Movement for Black Livesget it here. It was put together with tracks from bands like Sunn 0))), Primitive Man, Thou, Jesus Piece, Xibalba, Dawn Ray’d, Rwake, Cult Leader, Minority Threat and many more, with some rad art by Tyronne Gietzmann @xtgrxart, and donated time from everyone involved. It’s out today on their Bandcamp (the embed code isn’t up as of the time I’m writing this, but I’ll post it below as soon as it is).

We wanted to do this because it is an election year and Black people are still running…for their lives, ” comments Primitive Man/Many Blessings frontman, Ethan McCarthy. “Any movement that supports uplifting black lives – we have to back that. No peace without justice for all men, no peace without justice for black, indigenous and all people of color.

Let me make one thing clear – shutting down the existing system doesn’t have to be a scary thing; it’s actually a wonderful, beautiful, exciting thing. It’s an opportunity to invite new voices and ideas in and envision the world differently. It’s an opportunity to reject oppression in all of its forms and welcome real freedom of expression. It’s an opportunity to leave a legacy of love, community, creation, and respect instead of one of hoarding resources, violence, hatred, and ignorance. We’ve all got a part to play in this and it starts with seeing past the veil of distraction that makes a few people a lot of money. So if you’re here, reading this and open to what I’m saying, we’re ready to shut this shit down together.
