From the depths of Covid isolation, NUEVO CUERPO is a new post-punk project by Andres Ruiz (False Figure, Adrenochrome) recorded and mixed entirely in his home studio beginning in 2020. Heavily influenced by bands from La Movida in Madrid, Spain in the late 70s/80s at the fall of Franco, this project too strikes influences from the possibility of a new world forged in the ashes of the old regime.
The high compression lo-fi drum machine loops mean to evoke a found forgotten demo from that era which this EP is staying true to by being a tape-only physical release. Crooning vocals singing of love and loss mean to disarm and paralyze the listener juxtaposed with rhythms and hooky melodies that mean to entrance. With lyrics in his native Spanish, Nuevo Cuerpo embodies the angst and desperation common in Mexican and Latin American love songs. This project is at home through a walkman’s headphones as it is on a hazy crowded dance floor.
