The New PNW Heavy! OUT FOR A RIFF Fest 2017

2017 has been an insane year for festivals so far, with both Modified Ghost Fest and Covenant Fest absolutely decimating Vancouver with varying shades of pitch-black audio. But the year isn’t over yet, and we’re so happy to be sponsoring a doomedelic celebration of riffage this August – the first annual OUT FOR A RIFF Fest, hosted by Art Signified! The Waldorf Hotel will be laid to waste on August 26th by the legendary WEEDEATER, supported by a stacked bill of sonic crushers: He Whose Ox Is Gored, Black Wizard, Telekinetic Yeti, Haggatha, Serial Hawk, BRASS, Heron, Neck Of The Woods, Wormwitch, HEDKS, Satan’s Cape, The Hallowed Catharsis and Craters – plus there’s an afterparty featuring sets from Un, Bushwhacker and Koma. While there are some very highly anticipated touring bands on the lineup, this is a fest by Vancouver for Vancouver, with the majority of the lineup being local, attesting to the strength of the underground music community here. Plus, everyone’s favorite local joints will be providing food – Jackalope’s Dive Bar, What’s up? Dog and The Heatley – and in true Vancouver fashion, Eden Medicinal dispensary will be on site. For anyone in the PNW who’s thinking about travelling up here – Vancouver may rain 8 months out of the year (OK, 9), but it’s ranked in the top 5 cities in the world because of the brief months of summer we get, and August is the best time to see why. Oh yeah, and there’s a dunk tank. Get yer tickets HERE – or in person at Redcat Records, Redcat Hastings or Neptoon Records – and check out the event info HERE. So brave the border and check out how Vancouver gets HEAVY at the Out For a Riff fest!

With exuberance and anticipation, organizers Art Signified and Black River Productions are proud to announce the inaugural Out For A Riff. The spiritual successor to Burger Fest – a long time staple of summer festivities in the Vancouver heavy music scene – Out For A Riff is playing down the burger angle, and putting a bit more emphasis on the riffs, and those that feel inclined to come out to get them.

Featuring appearances by Weedeater, He Whose Ox Is Gored, Black Wizard, Telekinetic Yeti, Haggatha, Serial Hawk, BRASS, Heron, Neck Of The Woods, Wormwitch, HEDKS, Satan’s Cape, The Hallowed Catharsis and Craters, this festival promises to be the most memorable thing you’ll forget you did in Vancouver this summer.

Graciously hosted by the Waldorf Hotel at 1489 East Hastings Street, the all-day event will incorporate catering from three staples of East Vancouver’s most celebrated, riff-friendly dining establishments:
Jackalope’s Neighbourhood Dive, purveyors of the finest southern-inflected delicacies, What’s Up? Hot Dog, who have succeeded in making the sausage noble again, and finally The Heatley, an absolute island of refinement in the realm of what constitutes modern pub gastronomy.

Introducing a revised stage configuration, the majority of performing acts will pummel attendees’ earholes from an outdoor platform soaked in sunshine, whilst the last two acts of the night will take to the slightly more intimate indoor stage to accommodate the City of Vancouver’s incredibly stringent and unreasonable noise-related by-laws. Sobriety will go home drunk.
