This is my love letter to BLACK HELIUM. I want to let them know that they can do no wrong in my ears! The sonic energy that is put forth on all of their releases is so fucking UPLIFTING! Their new album UM ( out now on Riot Season Records ) is a 45-minute Heavy Psych Spaceship that won’t stop orbiting around my brain! The moment “Another Heaven” kicks in you will realize that this band is going to take us to higher heights in 2023! BLACK HELIUM are not trying to be rockstars, they want us all to open our 3rd eyes and rock out to the fuzzed-out passion that they are laying down! I want them to know that as I inhale their song “Summer Of Hair” I exhale pure uncut happiness while heading banging in a state of bliss!
Hey BLACK HELIUM — I next-level wish I could see y’all live because I know for fact it would be life-changing! The last song on UM called “The Keys To Red Skeleton’s House (Open The Door)” is a 15-minute freak out that takes me back to 1975 when I would go to work with my moms at The Whiskey A Go Go on Sunset. I was four or five at the time but I got to witness the foundation of Rock & Roll created in front of my young mind. This band’s music is bigger than Heavy Psych, it’s BLACK HELIUM.
