Hear the urgent, Devious Black Metal Sonics of MITOCHONDRIAL SUN “Pulsar 2”

As soon as I hit play on our premiere of “Pulsar 2” below, I’m having to fight the impulse to close my eyes, which is a strange feeling when I’m watching a music video. But when I read about MITOCHONDRIAL SUN‘s intention when creating this album – “to invoke a trance-like experience” – it makes sense that my physical body is trying to shut down and allow my mind to go within. MITOCHONDRIAL SUN is the solo project from Dark Tranquility’s Niklas Sundin, and “Pulsar 2” is one of the stunning tracks off this forthcoming record Sju Pulsarer that’s out on November 13rd via Argonauta Records – pre-order it here. Leaning more heavily into black metal than on his previous more electronic-driven record means that the trance you’re likely to experience is intense and alarming, but also melodic and enchanting in a devious, dark, and icy sort of way. Today we’re honored to be sharing his video for “Pulsar 2” – I hope your mind’s eye creates some ecstatic visions for you while you sink into the cold grasp of MITOCHONDRIAL SUN…

“Pulsar 2” is the most melody-driven and probably most “traditional” track on the album in that it resembles what a regular metal band might sound like when playing together (as opposed to some other songs that are more distinctly electronic and in feel). The idea was to have the fast drums provide a constant pulse throughout the song and to build atmosphere through repetition and many different layers of sound and harmonies.
