What do I love about underground musical expression? It’s honesty. When you turn on the mainstream you’re flooded with distraction and manipulation โ strive for the shiniest, most realistic mask you can afford and no one will see how empty you are underneath it. But when you hit play on a record like Meslamtaea‘s Geketend in de schaduw van het leven (“Chained in the shadow of life”) LP, you’re hit with a heavy dose of reality in the most melodic and confrontational way. This atmospheric black metal project captures the decline of human civilization with an emotional impact like being hit in the chest with a bullet train. Their new record follows us as we purposefully move further and further out of sync with Mother Nature’s rhythm and watches sorrowfully as our death dance dismembers us limb from limb. It comes out via Babylon Doom Cult Records on September 4th – pre-order it here. Meslamtaea don’t take on this momentous feat aloneโ they’re joined by guests Fraukje van Burg (Doodswens), Kevin Kentie (Verbum Verus, Ibex Angel Order, Abysmal Darkening) and Otto Kokke (Dead Neanderthals). Today I’m thankful that we get to share their forthcoming record in full with you right here. Enjoy Geketend in de schaduw van het leven right here and now:
