KNIVAD is Swedish for “stabbed in the throat” and as I listen to their single “Häktad” I can feel their vicious crust-meets-post-punk at my throat! Most of us live in cities where we see the casualties of Profit. While pharmaceutical companies happily pay fines and settlements and their stock prices skyrocket, every day more than five people die from opioid overdoses in my city alone. Organized crime sits in law offices and parliament, and the police continue to criminalize addiction and the basic survival of people who have been crippled by the system. KNIVAD is channeling a fury in their words and sounds that takes aim at mass apathy, at our misguided sense of individualism, at our compliance with oligarchal authorities, and economic fascism (corporatism). This band’s sound is part dire and desolate almost gothic rock sitting atop a crust bonfire of rage. It’s exactly the kind of music we need to remind ourselves that we’re all worth more than whatever Google is selling us for and that we’re here to be happy, joyful, confident, and peaceful — all killers of profit and in the worst interests of our oppressors. Their debut full-length record Insidans Ärrvävnad comes out October 29th via Suicide Records — pre-order it here. Right now, hit play on our stream of their track “Häktad” below…
