It was an unforgettable run when back in the 90’s bands like Profanatica, Morbid Angel, Deicide and Incanation wielded the death metal spear to inflict mortal havoc upon the putrid flesh of christendom, spewing blasphemies unbound in His name. Long days gone it seems like, as death metal in the last couple decades seems to have steadily steered its attention toward gore, death, violence, B-movies, esotericism, surrealism and the occult. Well, say hello to France’s Infernalivm, an unholy legion of absolute sonic brutality that has just restored the order of things and made death metal the chosen weapon once again for the most unutterable blasphemies of orthodox satanism. You heard it right, their debut EP “Conquering the Most High” is a perverted crusade of absolute violence straight into the most sacred realms of holiness. A venom drenched-blade aimed straight at the throat of Christ, and a statement of what unbound sonic violence and darkness can become when the goal is evoking absolute evil incarnated. And now you can witness the bedlam on your own as we premiere the bludgeoning debut offering in full today, a full day ahead of release. Behold!:
And make no mistake to think Infernalivm are just the latest youngsters to get here. While Infernalivm is new, its members are no newcomers to the realms of extremist satanism. Instead they all come from within France’s infamous satanist black metal scene, having been long time members of bands like Novae Militiae, Merrimack, Ritualization and Benighted. W’ere talking about veterans of their scene who decided to continue their conceptual war waged against Christianity through their long running love for bands like Immolation, Nile, Angelcorpse, Morbid Angel and Deicide.
The result is “Conquering the Most High”, a twenty-minute onslaught of absolute brutality and of technical, imposing and vorticose death metal bedlam. A grim and bestial maelstrom of guttural proclamations, carpet bombing blasting (their drummer, Kevin Paradis, is one of the most revered extreme metal drummers in France), and mangled, dissonant fretwork annihilation, that despite its traditionalist approach still beautifully hints back at its members’ black metal roots just as much as is does to the cult of modern black/death beasts like Adversarial or Akron Infaustus.
All in all, an imposing, sanguinary, and more than anything, and absolutely imperial display of aural tyranny and domination from this trio of French veterans who’ve had the brilliance, skill and composure of creating an authentic masterclass in one of the most demanding and technically intimidating realms of extreme music – that of dark technical brutal death metal. And not only have they succeeded in every aspect of the feat, but they have also re-given the subgenera an injection of credibility and freshness that had been wavering since the last works from Dead Congregation.
“Conquering the Most High” is officially out tomorrow November 29 2024 via Sentient Ruin worldwide (get it HERE or HERE), and make sure not to miss the amazing single-sided silkscreened 12″ vinyl LP offered.
