Last year’s Vedo La Tua Faccia Nei Giorni Di Pioggia LP by SPIRITO DI LUPO was one of my favorite records of 2023. It’s a dynamic album that blew me away with its urgency, nuance and endless replay value. Needless to say, I’m stoked to find that some of the same players on that record have put out Società Mentale as FESTA DEL PERDONO. A dreamy and introspective record, this almost plays as a companion piece to the aforementioned SDL record. Drumless and vibey, FESTA DEL PERDONO use the same spoken word vocal style as SDL, but instead of coming off as abrasive, they feel a little softer, almost hypnotic. Honestly, I could get lost in this music for hours if given the chance. Each song is beautifully arranged and feature so many wonderful touches, like the whirling synths and clinical guitar on “Corpo Di Smeraldo” or the echoing vocal effect on title track “Società Mentale.” All of that said, I could hardly believe my ears upon hearing the dub stylings on my favorite track “Pomeriggio Dorato.” This is legit my favorite song of the year so far. I’ve always loved dub greats like AUGUSTUS PABLO, KING TUBBY, and SCIENTIST; hearing this style coming through in the anarcho-punk realm just warms my heart and makes me excited to listen to this during the hot Chicago summer, my favorite time of year to listen to dub. I can’t recommend this enough — it’s a little off the beaten path, but it’s sure to satisfy anyone looking for a slight change of pace to chill out to. Check it out now on La Vida Es Un Mus.
