Last year, CROCODILES frontman Brandon Welchez shared some of his favorite 45โs for a feature on Cvlt Nation (check it out here), showcasing an impressive knowledge of some deep cuts. While his longstanding band CROCODILES lean more surfy power pop, theyโve always exhibited some punk in their DNA, and after sharing his picks itโs clear that Welchez knows his stuff when it comes to punk tunes. Now, that style comes to the forefront with his new outfit PSYCHIC PIGS.
Joined by hardcore renaissance man Jonah Falco behind the drum kit as well as on production duties, PSYCHIC PIGS deliver an attitude-filled shot of pure 70โs punk power on debut track โPsychic Pigs,โ sitting comfortably alongside contemporaries like PACK RAT and CLASS, giving nods to the past without sounding derivative.
Opening with a lone guitar before the rest of the instruments drop in, the band sounds as if Brian James (R.I.P.) and Stiv Bators (R.I.P.) continued on a punk trajectory after THE DAMNED and DEAD BOYS instead of going goth. Fast and loud, with just the right amount of snot, โPsychic Pigsโ gives a perfect taste of what to expect with their full length.
