I’m starting my week of right with a healthy dose of Malevich‘s experimental blackened grindcore. The eerie and intensely beautiful buzzing intro to their new video for “Irène Jacob” gives way into howls of pain, discordant riffs, and disturbing percussion. The visuals bring to mind the many ways we can feel trapped by what’s expected of us in modern society. Life is no longer about finding and growing food, building shelter, and caring for community; it’s a much colder, more isolated, more meaningless existence we live now compared to our ancestors, and it can feel stifling to wake up every day and search for purpose outside of endless consumption. “Irène Jacob” is off their upcoming Trembling and Dowsed EP that’s out soon via Roman Numeral Records — get it here.
