REVEREND MOTHER calls me into her chapel with sultry, smokey riffs that makes me wanna to worship her heavy, doomy rock n’ roll! Their devious groove spins a dark ritual around the listener and then sucks you into a fuzzy vortex. Before you put this record on your turntable, light some candles and spread some salt. This is a journey into your shadow self, so prepare to face your demons.
Their debut record Damned Blessing is out via Seeing Red Records on October 7th — pre-order it here — and their record release show is on October 13th at TV EYE in Brooklyn. Today we’re lucky to be streaming their album in full, so hit play and fall into the arms of Reverend Mother…
I wrote the album as an instinctual necessity. It lived fully formed in the recesses of my consciousness, waiting to be freed. I felt the urge to say something new. I saw the visceral experience of writing an album as an opportunity to shed a layer of emotional skin. The songs question self-destructive behavior, beg the listener to look inward, and ultimately seek to remind us that the darkest times often yield immense light. Damned Blessing is a calling to a higher vibration.
