I love music that I can immerse my being into…songs that demand my presence when they’re playing. Sean and I regularly have little two-person listening parties, where we play an album from A to B, laying on our couch in silence and just letting the music wash over us. This debut single from FREECELL entitled “Mental Alchemist” is making me impatient to get my hands on their forthcoming EP, because it’s exactly the kind of music that weaves its way into the listener’s soul to pull and pluck at stagnant emotions and energy. It’s carrying hints of 90s Brit pop and trip hop, but it’s skillfully combined with an experimental electronic sound so it coaxes my musical memories without actually bringing them to the surface of my consciousness. I’m really excited to share their debut single with you today, because I think this band has something really special in the works and I’m looking forward to it. Their debut EP will be released soon, and it will feature remixes from Vril, Clipping, and John Beltran. Right now, sink into the immersive world of “Mental Alchemist” below…
