Last week, Facebook took down my post about witches because I was “inciting violence.” Never mind that the post was actually about the persecution of women by the established authorities. It was about the permanent silencing of heretical women who challenge the men who run society. Very ironic, Facebook.
It got me thinking about how the more those in power insist they are just, the more injustice they perpetuate. The more they insist they are pure, the more they rape and molest. The more they proselytize salvation, the more they deliver damnation. The more they praise God for their riches, the more wealth they steal from human beings.
The Church was the Facebook of the Middle Ages, passing decrees about what constitutes a sin and what’s an appropriate punishment, while they reserved the sole right to sin without punishment. And they still do. The Church has a stranglehold on its followers’ lives while it stockpiles death and the spoils of death. The Pope sits on his throne atop his spiritual landfill, leveraging his stolen assets to prevent his mafia from being held accountable for its centuries of crime. Meanwhile, his organization is built on the hundreds of thousands of corpses that line the walls of catacombs throughout Europe and the nations they colonized. These empires of death are a far more accurate picture of the Church. What other organization has so many literal skeletons in its closet?
