I’ve said it many times, but it bears repeating. Music has been the best therapy for me. When I’ve felt pain buried so deeply that logic can’t reach it. I can’t speak to it. I can’t even look at it. And then I put myself at the mercy of live blastbeats, deafening riffs, and scathing, guttural vocals, and the punishing soundwaves are like magnets to my shadows. I’ve felt myself crack open and felt the energy move and change inside me. Listening to Eyes of Perdition debut Incendiary Truths EP has me thinking about how this is a band that understands the power and necessity of the low end when it comes to human experience and healing. Their mashup of hardcore and slam death metal feels like it’s channeling pure pain and suffering and rage and will wrap its festering arms around mine. And then reading their vocalist Lindsay O’s inspiration helps me understand why—because she’s embraced her own shadows and become whole, the same journey I’m on. Their Incendiary Truths EP comes out on August 13th — and you can pre-order it here. Listen to the full EP below…
Triumph over the self is a big part of my experience — learning to embrace inner darkness and transform it into something that empowers and informs your life. I’ve overcome some really heavy experiences by facing my demons and learning to listen to them. And it’s through those experiences that I’ve come to accept myself. We can’t grow or be our best selves unless we’re willing to sit with ourselves in every storm, in every horrible experience and just feel our way through it. Then, nothing can shake your core, because you’re the eye of the storm. That’s true power.
