I can’t front, CULT OF FIRE is one of my favorite bands, no matter the genre! Their newest album, The One, Who is Made of Smoke, is a straight classic masterpiece! Every song on here is an uplifting banger that is dipped in sorrow pointing us to the sun! I’m beyond impressed with the atmosphere that this band manifests within every second of this record. On songs like “Joy” and “Blessing,” they show the world that there is truly light within the darkness. I want CULT OF FIRE to know that what makes their music so special is that their compositions make me feel alive in all forms or emotions. The riffs on “Blessing” speak to my grief about my mother’s passing, while letting me know that her light shines all around us!
CULT OF FIRE shows us all that what’s real is looking within oneself for the energy to keep going when life gets you down. I love their musicianship and how they weave in so many different sonic textures to create portals into other universes. I swear, the audio energy on “Joy” has me stuck in a place of Joy itself! Then “There is more to lose” flips the script and drags us into a black hole of nothingness. CULT OF FIRE is the only band on the planet that can construct Black Metal anthems that are laced with so much more. This band’s sound speaks to the human condition that we all face, no matter who we are or where we are from. I’m looking forward to the day that I will be able to blast The One, Who is Made of Smoke on vinyl. This record is so rad that it makes their past records even more culturally powerful. Darkness and light are in everything; it’s the way we balance them that matters. I want CULT OF FIRE to know that they have manifested a an album that will live with me for many years to come, and for that, I say THANK YOU!
