Do you think we’re ever going to realize how powerful we actually are? We’re not just a cog in the machine, a chip in the device; we are the machine. We are the device. All of the digital minds and virtual realities are just poorly made, myopic human versions of what actually exists. A computer can’t match our three minds. Virtual reality can’t replace the splendor of the universe.
Maybe I’m just saying this cuz I’m old, a Gen X/Millenial cusper who grew up when everything had to be experienced IRL. Or maybe it’s because I’m watching SCHEDULE 1‘s new video for their song “Show Your Children” and the catchy punk of their post-punk is reminding me of all the ways developers have found to trigger my anxiety and then feed me a steady drip of dopamine to temporarily tame it until it doesn’t. I used to loop albums instead of endlessly scroll, and I need to find a way back to that coping mechanism, because it worked.
We’re stoked to share their video for “Show Your Children” with you today — it’s off their recent Dirt Cult Records s/t release and you can get it here. FYI Schedule 1 will be live at Have A Good Laugh punk festival on June 23rd, 2022 in Vancouver, BC.
“Show Your Children” is a song about our increasingly prevalent digital dystopia, loss of the human element in our discourse, and the effect this may have on generations to come.
We worked with director Wayne Moreheart and picked his brain to bring the lyrics to life through his lens.
