The other day, one of our kids asked Sean if he ever thought about the Roman Empire, something apparently dads do. He said, the only time I think about it is when I think about the fall of the Roman Empire. I agreed, and we gave our kids a lecture on failing societies and mass rebellions. This Death Metal horde hailing from the heart of the new Roman Empire, KARKOSA, think about it too, and have dedicated their scathing new track, “Ensorcelled Spirits,” to its destruction. They’ve channeled the spirits of the people who play war games with our bodies as fuel for their bloody offerings. It’s rife with fear-inducing riffs and the drums feel like a million feet trampling my head. The vocals are straight from the power-possessed throat of a tyrant. Maybe they didn’t make music like this back in Roman days, but don’t get it twisted, this band is also ringing the death knell for the world as we know it on “Ensorcelled Spirits.” It’s off their new record Esoterrorcult, out on February 23rd via Redefining Darkness Records — pre-order it here. Today get a taste of where our wars could be taking us when you hit play on “Ensorcelled Spirits” below…
This song is about the fall of Rome and the similarities with the modern political climate. The song is a first person fantasy of having godlike power to control the minds of countless marauders. Simply put, this song is about choosing violence from the safety and fortitude of the Sorcerer’s tower.
