Why does humanity cling to permanence? We can all look back at human history and see nothing but continuous change, and the only constant is our reactions of fear and disappointment. The French experimental black metal project BAUME knows that nothing lasts. We’re born into change, and we’ll die in change, and our only hope for happiness lies in appreciating our present and accepting our lack of control. BAUME collaborated with Studio Patate on a series of absolutely mind-melting videos for each song on the EP, and today we’re excited to share the first of these videos with you, for the track “I. Rien ne Dure.” As I watch it, the frenetic visuals feel like a metaphor for the inescapable movement of cells dividing and dying, structures rising and falling, continents shifting and eroding. The track is the first off their Août Approche EP that comes out via MALLEVS RECORDS on October 9th – pre-order it here. All we can do is let go and live–so hit play on “I. Rien ne Dure” and remember that nothing lasts.
